Similar to the “Taurus” locomotives, the 2016 series also received a classic name: “Hercules”, named after the hero of Greek mythology with his superhuman strength.
From 2002 to 2004, a total of 100 of the diesel-electric universal locomotives were put into service by the ÖBB. The locomotive is not only capable of multiple traction, but also of shunting. The engine power is 2,000 kW and the maximum speed is 140 km/h. With an axle load of 20 tons, it can also be used on branch lines.
