EMD NW2, B&O 9564, PERE MARQUETTE SCHEME, PARAGON4 SOUND/DC/DCC, N

From February 1939 through December 1949, the General Motors Electro-Motive Division built 1,145 EMD NW2 1,000 horsepower switcher locomotives. The NW2 was widely popular, with more than fifty Class 1 railroads purchasing more than 1,100 NW2’s. They were also popular with industries, and several were purchased by the US Navy. The NW2’s were EMD’s new 12-cylinder, 567A prime mover. The NW2 was 44 feet long and equipped with the standard B-B truck arrangement. Typical distinguishing features of the NW2 switchers include two stacks in the middle of the hood, a half-height radiator grill on the front, no sand box on the front platform, no small louvers at the front corners, and the tops of the front cab windows are curved to match the curve of the roof. Our model is of the phase V locomotives. The main difference between the Phase V and the Phase 1-4 NW2’s is the slope of the long hood just ahead of the cab.

In this production, we are offering models in eleven prototypical paint schemes and one Unpainted version. Each model is equipped with our newest Paragon4 DC/DCC Sound & Control System. See below for more model features!

BLI7851 USRA LIGHT MIKADO, ACL 836, PARAGON4 SOUND/DC/DCC, N

This is BLI’s third production of the USRA Light and Heavy 2-8-2 designs in N scale, commonly called Heavy Mikados and Light Mikados! There were 233 original USRA Heavy 2-8-2’s built plus another 957 copies, covering 23 railroads. It was an extremely successful design. The USRA Heavy Mikados used pretty much the same running gear as the Light Mik’s, but the boilers were 10 inches larger in diameter and they had larger cylinders as well. Tractive effort was about 10% higher for the heavy 2-8-2’s.

As for the USRA Light Mikados, the USRA built 625 total, with 641 copies built after the USRA ended control. With copies, over 50 railroads used the USRA Light 2-8-2’s.

BLI’s models follow the original designs closely. Railroad specific variations are not modeled on these locomotives. In this production run, we are offering several attractive fantasy paint schemes in addition to the prototypical USRA models. We also offer two painted and unlettered models (black) – – one heavy and one light.
